Celebrating a Five-Star Milestone: The Journey of Social Skills Australia

At Social Skills Australia, we’re celebrating a milestone that means a great deal to our team — we’ve achieved a perfect 5-star rating on Google! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Of course, seeing five stars beside our name is wonderful. But what makes this milestone truly special is what those five stars represent: the families who have trusted us, the participants who have taken part in our programs, and the people who have shared their experiences with us.

For us, it’s a reflection of the relationships we’ve built and the difference we’ve had the privilege of being part of.

Why PEERS® Matters

At the heart of what we do is the PEERS® social skills program, an evidence-based program developed at UCLA that teaches practical skills for navigating friendships, conversations, relationships and everyday social situations.

PEERS® isn't simply about learning a list of social rules.

Participants have the opportunity to learn, practise and apply social skills in a supportive environment.

Depending on the program, participants work on skills such as:

  • Starting and maintaining conversations

  • Finding and maintaining friendships

  • Using appropriate conversational skills

  • Handling teasing, bullying and rumours

  • Handling disagreements

  • Navigating social media and electronic communication

  • Dating skills and relationships

  • Developing strategies for managing common social challenges

One of the things we value most about PEERS® is its practical approach.

It's one thing to understand a social skill. It's another thing to have the opportunity to practise it, receive feedback and gradually build confidence using it in real life.

Supporting Parents Along the Way

We also know that social skills development doesn't stop when a session ends.

That's why parent and Social Coach involvement is such an important part of our live PEERS® programs.

Parents are given practical strategies and guidance so they can help reinforce the skills at home and support their young person's progress outside the program.

For many families, this becomes an important part of the journey — not just learning what to do, but understanding how to support their young person in everyday situations.

What Social Skills Australia Has Built

Over the years, Social Skills Australia has grown into a community supporting adolescents, young adults and adults who want to develop their social skills and feel more confident navigating relationships and social situations.

We've had participants join us from across Australia, connecting online through Zoom and building skills alongside peers from different parts of the country.

We've also developed flexible options such as our Self-Paced PEERS® Course, allowing participants who can't commit to a weekly live group to access the PEERS® curriculum at their own pace.

Our work continues to evolve, but our purpose remains the same:

To provide practical, evidence-based social skills support that can make a meaningful difference in everyday life.

Every Participant Has Their Own Journey

No two participants come to us with exactly the same goals.

For one young person, success might be feeling confident enough to start a conversation.

For another, it might be making a new friend, understanding when someone wants to change the topic, handling a disagreement more successfully or feeling more comfortable joining a group.

And sometimes the biggest changes are the ones that happen gradually — a little more confidence, a little more independence and a greater willingness to give something new a try.

These are the moments that make our work so rewarding.

Thank You for the Five Stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

To every family who has trusted Social Skills Australia — thank you.

To every participant who has joined us and been willing to learn, practise and try something new — thank you.

To every parent, Social Coach and support person who has encouraged a participant along the way — thank you.

And to everyone who has taken the time to leave us a Google review, your words genuinely mean so much to our team.

The five-star rating isn't just a milestone for our business.

It's a reflection of the community we've had the privilege of building together.

Looking Towards the Years Ahead

As we celebrate this milestone, we're already looking forward to what's next.

We're excited to welcome our next PEERS® cohorts, meet new participants and families, and continue helping people develop practical social skills and greater confidence.

We know there will be more young people who are looking for friendship.

More young adults wanting to build meaningful connections.

More parents looking for practical ways to support their children.

And more people who simply want to feel a little more confident navigating the social world around them.

We'll continue doing what we do best — teaching practical skills, creating supportive spaces to practise them and helping participants take those skills into everyday life.

Here's to our next cohort, the families we'll meet, the goals we'll work towards and the many more years ahead. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Thank you for being part of the Social Skills Australia journey. ❤️
